Feature Wedding – Jess & Brad Major, Cronulla
The gorgeous couple met whilst Jess was working in a local Cronulla restaurant during her Uni days. Who knew that a serving of garlic bread would lead to their first date and then a proposal at the same restaurant they first dined in (though not on the same day!). Of course, Jess said ‘Yes!’, but only after Brad repeated the question four times to a very surprised Jess.
Preferring a non-traditional celebration for her hen’s day, Jess lunched at the Duck Republic with thirty of her closest friends and family. The restaurant kindly provided them with the restaurant for the sitting, to allow them privacy and some girly fun. In stepped Jess’s maid-of-honour, who had prearranged with the Groom-to-be a questionnaire for Jess to see how well she knew her soon to be groom. Needless to say this quiz provided hours of laughter!
Jess and Brad chose to have their wedding locally, and use the beautiful Cronulla surrounds as the backdrop to their wedding. The ceremony was booked for the balcony of the Elouera Surf Club, a gorgeous beach setting for their nuptials. The couple then wished to commence their celebratory photographs on location at the beach below where their ceremony was held. For their next stop, we headed over to Darook Park for a contrast in locations. As the sun was setting over the water in Gunnamatta Bay, Jess & Brad beamed with happiness in each and every photo.
I was lucky enough to witness the moment Jess & Brad were announced as ‘husband and bride’ to their reception party. Everyone was ready to enjoy the evening in celebration of the newly wedded couple.
Interview with the Bride – Jess Major
We asked Jess some questions to help newly engaged couples plan for their wedding day and these were her responses:
1. When you were planning your wedding, what was one of the things that the bridal magazines, wedding websites and wedding blogs don’t tell you?
How many people don’t return the RSVP! This may seem only small however the amount of people I had to ring was extremely frustrating and slightly awkward. Make sure you send out the invitations with enough notice to confirm numbers with the chosen venue.
2. What would you recommend should be put in a ‘bride-aid kit’ for her big day?
Touch-up lipstick and powder, definitely band aids, bobby pins and safety pins (I pinned my old, blue and borrowed to my dress), a change of shoes for pics (I bought my MOH and I glittered thongs for when we went to the beach) and tissues!
3. What’s one piece of advice you’d give the brides to be?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff”- All the little things that you worry about don’t make a difference. At the end of the day the only people who know what you have planned is the Bride and Groom, so if something doesn’t go to plan it doesn’t matter.
4. What helped you create a stress free wedding day?
“Be Organised” – get a folder and put everything wedding orientated in it (receipts, pictures of things you like, business cards, swatch samples ect). This way when you need something it is easy to find and doesn’t overtake your entire house.
5. What is your biggest tip for the wedding day?
Make sure you take five minutes alone as a couple during the reception. You constantly have people pulling you in all directions all day long. After we had danced our bridal waltz we went into a corner (with champagne) and watched everyone else at the reception enjoying themselves were able to relax and enjoy a moment alone together. One of my favourite pictures of the day is one that a guest took from afar of us doing this.
Favourite photo of the day…
” I love the photos Kat took of us walking down the grassy area of Darook Park. The ones where you can see the back of my dress!! I love those because they are natural and fun. “
